On 24 February 2019 we are hosting a photography group on board the Wildlife Coast Cruise’s (WCC) Wilsons Prom day trip. This is a 9 HOUR trip that includes a great stopover in a secluded bay where we will be able to swim and get up close to the rugged beauty of the Prom. If you have an underwater housing or waterproof smartphone case (can be bought inexpensively on Amazon.com.au), this would be a great place to get it wet while snorkelling around granite boulders looking for weedy seadragons and other marine life.
Photo Rangers will meet the group at the boat at Port Welshpool and do a brief talk on photography from the boat, what to expect, what lenses are recommended and what settings are best. We will also be available to answer any questions while on the cruise itself.
We have a group rate of $195 per person for 20 or more participants. If we have less than 20, we'll get a group discounted rate of $215pp. The boat has a capacity of 55 people so it would be great if we could fill it with photographers. When you call to reserve your spot, be sure to say you are in the Photo Rangers group (there is no charge for the photography seminar - it's a free Photo Rangers social event).
You can see more info here including details on where to meet the boat or catching a shuttle bus from Phillip Island to Port Welshpool (limited availability).
Wildlife Coast Cruises
Apart from the photography side of things your day tour includes:
Morning and afternoon tea
Stop at Refuge Cove to walk and swim
Cruise around the Prom lighthouse
Cruise up and under Skull Rock
Visit Kanowna Island seal colony
Regular sea bird and dolphin sightings
Departs from Port Welshpool (unless specified otherwise)
Coach pick-up available (fees apply, see Dates & Times section)
The coastal Gippsland village of Port Welshpool revolves around fishing. Many commercial fishermen use this busy port and their colourful trawlers are located at the wharf. Whalers first used the port in the 1830's.
The photography will be amazing. Keep this in mind and perhaps take the opportunity to spend the weekend around the Prom area. You won't be disappointed.
*The cruises may go ahead in rainy weather (the landscape shots look perfectly gothic in inclement weather) but the cruise is subject to the wind and swell conditions, see WCC terms and conditions for further details.
