I took this shot yesterday in the gardens of the abandoned boys home in Newhaven. I saw the afternoon light hitting the budding leaf and it was so beautiful. It made me think of the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi Sabi ... how beauty exists in impermanence and simplicity. The irony in this is that I lost the high resolution version of this pic because Lightroom was having conniptions, rendering this image all the more impermanent. Coincidentally, I am teaching a picture book called Wabi Sabi next week to Deakin undergrads so despite my sad loss, I can at least use this as an example of the aesthetic that the Western world may have trouble understanding.
