This weekend we attended an Earth Wisdom workshop led by Gunai Custodian Wayne Thorpe. Wayne shared Gunai stories of the Wilson's Prom area and the ways of traditional custodianship. We came away with a deeper appreciation of the Gunai people and of the important spiritual and communal relationship the Gunai have with Prom Country.
Wayne and his family gave insight into the creation story of the Whale. We visited Whale Rock on Tidal River to pay our respects. Wayne also shared the Gunai creation story and we visited the site where Borun (the Pelican) covered himself with white ochre war paint creating the black and white pelicans we see today.
The rain and storm weather added to the ambience and connection to the land and environment. We encourage all Australian's to seek out traditional people and seek to understand their insight and connection to the land.
