Photo Rangers have been invited to present a paper, 'Refocusing Photography’s Environmental Duality', at the EcoArts Australia 3rd Annual Conference in Wollongong NSW this May.
Our paper details the way photography’s role in the environment has changed. Once photography portrayed nature as sublime - awe-inspiring, grand and with reverence. Now, it seems as if nature is a commodity to be exploited and used to stroke egos through social media likes and follows. We go on to suggest strategies to limit the impact of photography and social media on sensitive areas.
We photographers have an environmental imperative to preserve nature and personally revere and aspire to create images that will advance conservation efforts. To do otherwise is unconscionable.
We look forward to meeting others using art in creative ways to promote environmental sustainability.
